`Grey areas` in govt`s Lokpal Bill: BJP
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Thursday, questioned the government for shying away from bringing in a strong Lokpal Bill.

New Delhi: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Thursday, questioned the government for shying away from bringing in a strong Lokpal Bill.
Speaking to a news channel ahead of the bill’s tabling in the Lok Sabha, party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said that the there are a lot of ‘grey areas’ in the bill prepared by the government and that her party will not shy away from bringing in an amendment motion if it is not satisfied with the bill.
Sitharaman said, “There are certain areas where grey areas have been brought in. If it comes to that the bill has to be made strong then we will move an amendment.” “We want the layers in reportage reduced. The underlining principle should be a strong Lokpal and simple process,” she said, adding, “Any kind of ambiguity is not called for there should be clarity.”
Sitharaman welcomed the government’s decision to bring the Prime Minister under the ambit of the Lokpal, she also stressed that there should be safeguards built in for the same.
However, she differed with the government on the issue of the CBI. While the government’s bill opts for granting only supervisory role for the CBI, the BJP leader said that her party is in favour of granting autonomy to the investigating agency. Sitharaman also assured that her party’s stand on CBI wouldn’t have been different if they were in power.
“The mood (in the country) is to fight corruption. When the BJP says bring strong Lokpal, we also back systemic changes,” she said.
