Bhubaneswar: Hit by floods in two phases in September, the Orissa government on Thursday sought an additional Rs 1144.46 crore as Central assistance towards the damages caused due to the second spell of the calamity.
Earlier on September 22, the state had sought a Central assistance of Rs 2120.92 crore, said special relief commissioner P K Mohapatra. "Taking both the floods into consideration, total damage assessment was made at Rs 3265.38 crore," he said.
According to Mohapatra, at least 81 people have perished in the floods -- 41 in the first phase and 40 in the second. Twenty-one of the state`s 30 districts experienced very high floods which affected above 25 lakh people in the second spell and 34.43 lakh in the first phase.
