New Delhi: The Syrian football team could give their fans plenty to cheer about as they take on Japan in in Group E of their Asia World Cup Qualifying campaign.
Unperturbed with the turmoil back home, Syria, who are ranked 123 on the FIFA World Rankings list, have had a dream start in Group E and a fourth successive win will put them in a strong position to reach the third round of qualifying.
The Eagles, who are yet to feature in a World Cup, have won all three of their opening matches, scoring 13 goals and not conceding even one!
Syria hammered Afghanistan 6-0 in their opening match and followed it with two more convincing wins against Singapore (1-0) and Cambodia (6-0).
Japan, who are ranked 55 in the world, are also unbeaten in their qualifying campaign but they won two and drew one of their opening three matches.
The two teams last met in an Asian Cup encounter where Japan registered a 2-1 win
They will now locks horns at the Al-Seeb Stadium on Thursday.
