Concern in LS over plight of Indians in Angola
The plight of about 1,200 Indians working in Angola, with their passports being taken away by their employers and salaries not paid, was raised in LS.
New Delhi: The plight of about 1,200 Indians working in Angola, with their passports being taken away by their employers and salaries not paid, was raised in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Harin Pathak (BJP) said the passports of these young men, including 40 from Gujarat, had been "snatched away by the employers. They have been ousted from their homes and their salaries have not been paid. They have been on the streets in a foreign country for the past 6-7 days." Maintaining that the media has been reporting their "sorry plight", he asked the government to take urgent steps through the External Affairs Ministry to bring them back. Pathak said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had also raised the matter with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in a letter on Saturday.
