New Delhi: The government Wednesday said a panel set up by the Planning Commission has recommended enactment of `Right to Marital Property Act`, which would treat all assets of a couple as a joint property and can be divided in case of separation. The working group on Women`s agency and empowerment for the 12th Plan constituted by the Planning Commission under the chairpersonship of Ministry of Women and Child Development Secretary has made such a recommendation, Law and Justice minister Salman Khurshid told Lok Sabha in reply to a query. The panel recommended enactment of a comprehensive Right to Marital Property Act, applicable to all communities, which should treat all movable and immovable assets of a married couple or a couple living together as joint property and which can be divided at the time of separation/desertion, regardless of who has bought the property, the minister said.
