Booklet for Tihar inmates to be released tomorrow

The booklet will contain details including facilities available for their reformation and rehabilitation like parole and furlough, telephone facility, literacy initiative `Padho aur Padhao` scheme with National Literacy Mission, campus placement among others, DIG, Tihar Prisons, R N Sharma said. Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Justice A K Sikri will launch the booklet tomorrow.
"This attempt to introduce a booklet arose as a part of our reformation and rehabilitation programme for our inmates.
Once they are aware of their rights, their duties and responsibility during their stay here it will help us to make them better human being when they goes back to the society," Sharma said. The `Padho aur Padhao` scheme undertaken by the jail aims to make all jail inmates literate by the end of 2011, he said.
"We want to make them realise that jail is no place where life has come to an end. This is an place where we will help them be a better human being. What they should do and what they should not and how their acts will effect their stay here, all has been jotted down in this booklet," Tihar Jail spokesperson Sunil Gupta said.
"Many of our inmates have landed up in the best companies with handsome salaries. Some of them earned international awards for excellent art work. This booklet will them what to do and what not to do when in prison so that they are reformed into good human beings," he added.
