Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday ridiculed BJP leader LK Advani for his decision to launch a yatra against corruption at a time when some of his own partymen in Karnataka were accused of graft.
"Karnataka Chief minister had to quit following scam charges, and in Rajasthan corruption was rampant during the previous (BJP) government. What will Advani ask the people of the state when he will address people during his Jan Chetna Yatra here?" asked Gehlot. He told reporters here that it was "courageous" for Advani to continue with the yatra despite certain developments and the fact that the party and its leaders have been involved in corruption.
On the Bhanwari Devi missing case, Gehlot said it was an unfortunate incident and appreciated the efforts of the state police in probing the matter before the case was handed over to CBI. "Since there were allegations of involvement of a state minister so it was decided to hand over the case to CBI in order to ensure impartial investigation. Before the CBI took over the case, the state police also carried out its investigation in a proper manner," he said.
Mahipal Maderna, who was water resources minister, was sacked last month on allegations of involvement in the case.
