`Pak to allocate Rs 32 bn for two N-plants`
The Pakistan government will allocate Rs 32 billion for two nuclear power plants being built with the Chinese assistance at the Chashma complex.
Islamabad: The Pakistan government will allocate Rs 32 billion for two nuclear power plants being built with the Chinese assistance at the Chashma complex in Punjab province, a media report said on Wednesday.
The allocation for the third and fourth reactors at the Chashma complex will be made under the Public Sector Development Programme for 2012-13, the Business Recorder daily quoted its sources as saying. The government has also decided to conduct a survey and feasibility studies for six additional nuclear power plants and to develop a project team for choosing sites for installing nuclear power plants capable of generating 300 MW and 1,000 MW.
While the ministries and divisions of the government had sought Rs 750 billion for development projects under the Public Sector Development Programme, an official committee recommended the allocation of only Rs 350 billion, the report said. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission had sought Rs 53 billion but authorities had agreed to provide Rs 32 billion for the two atomic power plants.
The report quoted official documents as saying that a nuclear fuel enrichment plant will be initiated during 2012-13 at a cost of Rs 14 billion.
