Cristiano Ronaldo says he would have won more Ballons d`Ors if he was Lionel Messi`s teammate
After a sensational year, Ronaldo accumulated a massive 745 points -- over 400 more than Messi -- in this year`s poll.
New Delhi: Soon after bagging his fourth Ballon d'Or, Real Madrid's talismanic striker Cristiano Ronaldo said that he would have won more number of prestigious titles if he was a teammate of Lionel Messi.
It was the perfect ending to another fantastic year for the Real Madrid star, who won the Champions League for the second time in three seasons and then led Portugal to their first major title at Euro 2016 -- albeit he went off early injured and in tears in the surprise victory over France.
When asked whether he would have claimed the award more times had he and the Barcelona superstar played on the same side, Ronaldo said: "It's a difficult question. I don't know.
"It would be interesting to see both of us in the same team. I think great players should play together. So if we were in the same team, I think I would have more than him, but he wouldn't be far off.
"Everyone knows Messi is a great player. He's won five Ballons d'Or."
The Argentine, who came second to Ronaldo, in the 2016 vote, has five Ballons d'Or to the Real Madrid man's four.
After a sensational year, Ronaldo accumulated a massive 745 points -- over 400 more than Messi -- in this year's poll.
Ronaldo was the firm favourite to win the coveted prize, but it comes at a time when the prolific forward has generated negative headlines in the past week over accusations of tax evasion.
