`J&K following zero-tolerance policy on terror`
Observing that the J&K was following a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism, Gov NN Vohra said it will continue to maintain utmost vigil.
Jammu: Observing that the Jammu and Kashmir
Government was following a policy of zero tolerance towards
terrorism and human rights violations, Governor NN Vohra
on Thursday said it will continue to maintain utmost vigil in the
area of internal security.
"Following a policy of zero tolerance towards both terrorism and human rights violations, my government will continue to maintain utmost vigil in the area of internal security", Vohra said in his address to a joint session of the state Legislature here on commencement of budget session today.
"It is a matter for considerable satisfaction that, with the maintenance of peace and calm during summer 2011 a record number of tourists visited the valley", he said. The number of pilgrims to the cave shrines of Amarnath and Mata Vaishnodevi also recorded all-time high figures, being over 6.3 lakhs and 100 lakhs respectively.
Last year, the educational institutions across the Valley functioned normally and a number of youth exchange programmes and sports activities were also conducted, he said.
Trade and business, which had suffered severe losses on account of disturbances in the past years also showed signs of recovery, said Vohra, who faced protests from the BJP legislators, wearing black gowns, during his address. As the security situation stabilised, the government took steps to reduce the visible presence of the security forces, particularly in urban areas, Vohra said.
