Dutch coach Danny Blind flays Man Utd over Van Gaal sacking
Blind had assisted van Gaal during the 2014 World Cup before taking over as the team`s national coach.
London: Launching a scathing attack over Manchester United for sacking manager Louis van Gaal, Netherlands coach Danny Blind has admitted that the Dutchman`s dismissal came as a major shock for him and that he deserved a better treatment at Old Trafford.
On Monday, United confirmed that they have parted ways with manager van Gaal, adding that the decision on his successor would be announced soon with Jose Mourinho being considered favourite for the vacant position.
Blind had assisted van Gaal during the 2014 World Cup before taking over as the team`s national coach.
Reflecting on the same, Blind said that he had spent a number of years with van Gaal and that the latter had always been a great coach.
Van Gaal`s close friend further insisted that he was feeling extremely sad for the 64-year-old, especially because his sacking was not at all handled well, the Mirror reported.
Earlier this year, Blind gave van Gaal a chance to escape from Old Trafford`s troubles by offering him the post of a technical director with the Dutch Football Federation.
Van Gaal, however, turned down the role, saying that he wanted to complete the final year of his contract with United.
United ended their troubled season on high with a FA Cup victory as van Gaal became the club`s first manager to win a major silverware since the retirement of legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
