This fixtures particularly has had many heated battles in the past and also features two of the most coveted footballers of the generation – Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.


Having faced each other at the end of last season on April 23rd, the Real Madrid and Barcelona would have to wait until December 4 to lock horns again.


The highly anticipated encounter becomes more tricky as it comes just days before the final Champions League group stage match for both, which could be of extreme importance.


Defending La Liga champions Barcelona start their season at home against minnows Real Betis on the weekend of August 20-21.
