New Delhi: New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp received a double blow ahead of his first match in charge, against Tottenham Hotspur, with Danny Ings joining Joe Gomez in the injury list.
Ings, who joined the Reds from Burnley in the summer, has suffered a knee injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season. The England striker reportedly twisted his knee in fist training session with the new manager.
Earlier today, the Anfield outfit confirmed Gomez, who also joined the club during the summer transfer window, had suffered a similar injury while playing for England’s under-21s against Kazakhstan last Tuesday. The former Charlton left-back will also miss remainder of the season.
Ings, 23, started his Anfield career on a high note, scoring three times so far and has managed to convince England manager Roy Hodgson as a possible contender the 2016 European Championship in France next year. But, he is likely to miss the tournament with a predictably long period of rehabilitation.
According to reports in British media, both players will have have surgery next week when the injuries settle down.
Liverpool have been reeling with lots of players in the injury list. Beside the two young English players, the Reds will go to White Hart Lane without Jordan Henderson, Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino.
