New Delhi: Manchester United suffered a big blow ahead of their Europa League Round of 32 tie against FC Midtjylland in Denmark on Thursday as skipper Wayne Rooney was not named in the 18-man squad.

Rooney who last played in the 1-2 loss against Sunderland in last week's Premier League encounter, misses alongside Matteo Darmian who dislocated his shoulder after an injury in the same match. Also to miss out is midfielder Marouane Fellaini and academy young prospect Cameron Borthwick-Jackson who has featured in 11 games so far this season.


United's tryst with injuries have continued to take a toll this season as the 18-man squad features majority of young players.


United were ousted from the Champions League group Stage and therefore features in the Europa League. With Louis van Gaal in intense scrutiny after a disastrous campaign so far, United will hope to beat the Danish side with the squad at their disposal.
