Mesut Ozil: Arsene Wenger compares German to Arsenal great Dennis Bergkamp
The comparison came after Ozil scored one and made another for Gabriel Paulista, taking his assist tally to a league-high 16.
New Delhi: Mesut Ozil's influence for Arsenal has kept growing and his manager Arsene Wenger was ecstatic to watch the German international tear apart Bournemoth in a crucial Premier League encounter on Monday.
Arsenal went atop the EPL table after registering a comfortable 2-0 victory over promoted outfit Bournemoth. Mesut Ozil played a significant role in the victory and that saw the manager compare him to club great Dennis Bergkamp.
The comparison came after Ozil scored one and made another for Gabriel Paulista, taking his assist tally to a league-high 16.
Arsene Wenger stated that the duo are comparable after Ozil's superb performance. "Bergkamp was more of a goalscorer than him but he now becomes more of a goalscorer, so they are comparable, yes."
Ozil is now just four assists short of the Premier League record set by Thierry Henry in 2002/03.
The Germany star's interplay with Olivier Giroud was beautifully executed, and the Emirates rose to its feet as he effortlessly stroked his finish through the keeper's legs.
Wenger stated that the former Real Madrid man is a complete player who convinces everyone with his hard work.
The manager also added that he always thinks on the right tone and has amazing technical ability.
Arsenal look like a side who can win the title this season and Mesut Ozil has been their star player of the season. With so many injuries and key players missing, Ozil has been the focal point of Arsenal side and Wenger needs to be lauded for landing the sensational play-maker two seasons ago.
Alongside Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, Ozil deserves to be amongst the top three players this season in the Premier League.
