B`desh: Ex-President`s son held on assault charges
The son of ex Bangladeshi president Iajuddin Ahmed was arrested on charge of assaulting a private university`s official.
Dhaka: The son of former Bangladeshi president Iajuddin Ahmed was on Monday arrested by police on charges of assaulting an official of a private university, a day after he Police said Imtiaz Ahmed Babu was arrested in line with a case filed overnight by the assault victim Kabir Ahmed, the registrar of the Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology, the assault victim.
Officer-in-charge of city`s Gulshan police station, Shah Alam, told newsmen that police took Babu to custody yesterday to protect him from angry students of the university after he assaulted the official. Babu, also a member of the trustee board of the university that was founded by his father, was arrested from a city health facility where he was being treated for injuries he received as the students chased him.
According to Police, Babu confined and beat the official over a dispute regarding the appointment of the vice chancellor of the varsity and later when went to the campus the students cornered him.
"We have arrested him at the hospital but he is still being treated there under our custody," Alam said.
