US hopeful of reopening of NATO routes
Pakistan had shut down crucial ground lines of communication in retaliation of the cross border NATO raid that killed 24 of its soldiers.
Washington: The US is hopeful that the crucial ground lines of communication, shut down by Pakistan in retaliation of the cross border NATO raid that killed 24 of its soldiers, will re-open soon, a State Department official said on Wednesday.
"We hope to reach resolution soon," State Department spokesperson Mark Toner told reporters at a news conference. However he refrained from making any comment on the nature of negotiations between the two countries.
"I don`t know if they`re meeting every day, but the team remains in Islamabad discussing it," he said responding to a question.
"We are continuing to meet in Islamabad to talk over these issues, as we are discussing a broad range of issues with Pakistan. You`re right, it`s slow going. But we`re making progress," Toner said. "We want Pakistan to be a stable, prosperous democracy that`s helping its neighbours also become stable, prosperous democracies," he said.
