Mulund blast accused dies of cardiac arrest
According to the charge sheet, Khopoli along with his aide Anwar Ali and others was accused of being involved with slain terrorist Abu Sultan in the 2003 blast.
Mumbai: One of the accused in the 2003 Mulund bomb blast case Sadik Turaballi Sayyed alias Sadhik Khopoli has died of cardiac arrest, police said on Friday.
"Khopoli is dead and now there are 15 accused in the case. The court is yet to be informed... we will do it after, we receive report from the doctors," special public prosecutor Rohini Salian said.
Khopoli, recently granted bail by the special POTA court, was reportedly also suffering from jaundice. He died on Wednesday, while being taken to the hospital. According to the charge sheet, Khopoli along with his aide Anwar Ali and others was accused of being involved with slain terrorist Abu Sultan of LeT in the 2003 blast.
Khopoli and Ali had also set up a firing range at Kondhava in Pune, which was used for firing practice.
In a combined charge sheet filed against 16 accused in the Mulund, Vile Parle and Mumbai Central blast cases, police had charged them with offences under POTA, the Explosive Substances Act, preparing to wage war against the nation and criminal conspiracy under IPC. The Mulund blast occurred on March 13, 2003 killing 12 persons and injuring 71. Earlier, on December 6, 2002 several persons were injured in the blast at McDonald`s at Mumbai Central station, while a person died when a bomb attached to a cycle exploded in a market area in Vile Parle (East) on January 27, 2003.
