New Delhi: Second day of Round 9 of I-League 2016 witnessed two thrilling encounters with East Bengal beating Salgaocar 2-1 at Kolkata, and DSK Shivajians holding Shillong Lajong 1-1 at Pune on Sunday.

At Barasat stadium in Kolkata, Mohammed Rafique and Bello Rasaq scored for the home side to earn all three points, which helped them moved closer to local rivals and league leaders Mohun Bagan to a single point.


East Bengal have 17 points with five wins, two draws and a defeat.


Darryl Duffy scored the lone goal for Salgaocar. The defeat meant that the Goan side occupy the eighth position in the nine-team league.


In another match, new boys DSK Shivajians produced an spirited display to hold Shillong Lajong FC 1-1 at Balewadi Stadium.


Uilliams Bomfin scored as early as the second minute to give the visiting team the lead. But Asier Dipanda found the equaliser in the 60th minute to share the spoils.


Shillong outfit are in fifth spot with 10 points with two wins, four draws and two defeats. Shivajians are at the bottom of the table with five points. They have so far won a single match, losing five times.
