New Delhi: A total of 154 ceasefire violations by Pakistan and 49 incidents of firing at BSF positions along the LoC and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir have taken place since 2009 killing 15 Indian security personnel, the Government said on Tuesday.
Of the 154 ceasefire violations along the Line of Control(LoC), 28 were reported in 2009, 44 during 2010, 51 in 2011 and 31 between January and August till date, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
A total of nine security personnel were killed in these ceasefire violations, he said. The Minister said 49 incidents of firing from the Pakistani side were reported along the International Border in J and K between 2009 and July 2012 killing six BSF personnel.
Of the 49 incidents, seven were reported in 2009, 26 in 2010, 11 during 2011 and five between January and July this year.
Ramachandran said all incidents of ceasefire violations are investigated and protests are lodged with the Pakistan authorities at the appropriate level through the established mechanism of hotlines, flag meetings and meetings between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) and Director Generals of Border Guarding Forces of the two countries. BSF is the border guarding force along the India-Pakistan border. However, on the Line of Control (LoC), the BSF is deployed under the Army operations control in J and K. PTI
