CPI MP attacks BJP on RS nominations
CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta Thursday attacked BJP and said while an `effective` person has been denied renomination, a `businessman` has got the Rajya Sabha ticket.
New Delhi: In a veiled attack on BJP on the
issue of Rajya Sabha nominations, CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta Thursday said while an "effective" person has been denied
renomination, a "businessman" has got the ticket.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, he refused to name any party or individual citing Parliamentary procedures despite provocation by treasury benches, but gave enough hints that he was referring to BJP Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia who was denied renomination. His remark that "NRIs who have dawned over the sub- continent to be in fray" was in apparent reference to independent candidate Anshuman Mishra who is contesting from Jharkhand for the RS polls.
BJP has since asked its MLAs in Jharkhand not to vote for Mishra who has now announced his withdrawal from the fray.
Terming the use of money power as "hypocrisy" in parliamentary system and political parties, he said such a practice should end immediately. He alleged that "huge volumes" of money are being paid to secure the candidature for the second chamber (Rajya Sabha) and said if the election process is vitiated then it would jeopardise the democratic system of the country.
