Ahmedabad: The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the post-Godhra riots, will deal "appropriately" with the report of amicus curie Raju Ramchandran on the complaint filed by Zakia Jaffery, one of the victims of the Gulburg massacre case, its chief said on Tuesday.
"We will deal with Ramchandran`s report appropriately," SIT Chairman RK Raghavan told news agency here. Raghavan is on a three-day visit to SIT office at Gandhinagar apparently to guide his team members in preparation of the final report and its submission to the magisterial court here as directed by the apex court.
On September 12, the Supreme Court, while refusing to pass any order on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his administration`s alleged inaction to contain the riots after the Godhra train carnage in 2002, had referred the matter to the magisterial court concerned for a decision.
In her complaint to the Supreme Court, Zakia, wife of Congress leader Ehsan Jaffery - who was killed in the riots at Gulburg Housing Society here - had alleged that Modi and 62 others aided and abetted the large-scale communal violence.
The apex court had also directed the SIT chairman to forward the final report, along with the material collected by the agency, to the magisterial court. It had further said that SIT was free to obtain a copy of Ramchandran`s report. Sources in the SIT confirmed that the agency has obtained a copy of Ramchandran`s report and they are studying it.
Raghavan, a former CBI director, however, declined to disclose how long it would take for the SIT to submit its report to the magisterial court. PTI
