New Delhi: In the wake of fast changing political equations, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Thursday wrote to Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and expressed regret that she couldn’t attend the swearing-in ceremony of Akhilesh Yadav as Uttar Pradesh chief minister.
Sources said Sonia wrote in the letter that she couldn’t attend the swearing-in ceremony owing to her ill health. The letter assumes significance amidst reports that the Congress is seeking new allies after being given a tough time by the Trinamool Congress and the DMK.
Political observers also see it as a move to placate Mulayam ahead of a possible pullout by the TMC in the near future. It should be noted that the SP already supports the UPA government at the Centre from outside.
