New Delhi: Scattered rains on Friday occurred in the national capital and other northern states but it failed to provide relief to Delhiites who sweltered under hot and humid conditions.
Though Delhi witnessed 12 mm rains till 5.30 pm in some parts, the maximum temperature increased by two notches from yesterday`s 33.2 degrees Celsius to settle at 35.3 deg C, one point above normal.

The minimum temperature was 28.7 deg C, which was two notches above normal, the Met department said.
Weather remained hot and sultry with the humidity level hovering between 87 and 62 percent.
Hot and humid conditions prevailed in most parts of Punjab and Haryana with the maximum temperature going up to three points above normal at several places in the region.
The humidity levels were up to 96 per cent in the region.
In Punjab, Hisar settled at a high of 38.5 deg C, three notches above normal, while the maximum at Amritsar was 36.6 deg C, three points above normal. In Haryana, Bhiwani registered a high of 36 deg C, followed by 35.9 deg C each at Rohtak, Ambala and Patiala, 35.7 deg C at Ludhiana, 35.3 deg C at Narnaul and 35.2 deg C at Karnal.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two neighbouring states, settled at a high of 35 deg C, two notches above normal.
Moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers occurred at a few places in Uttar Pradesh.
Rajghat recorded 7 cm rainfall, followed by Chayal and Mahroni at 5 cm each. Both Varanasi and Agra received 2 cm downpour.
A few places in Rajasthan received light rainfall.
The state capital Jaipur received 4.2 rainfall.
Elsewhere, Kota recorded 2.8 mm rainfall and Roopwas 6 cm.
