Chandigarh: A new scheme of immunisation will be implemented in three districts of Haryana namely Mewat, Palwal and Faridabad to provide vaccination services at the door-steps of people.

The new scheme known as `Tikakaran Express` has been approved by the Central Government to further strengthen routine immunisation in these districts, Haryana Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Health, Navraj Sandhu said while addressing a two-day review meeting of Civil Surgeons which concluded today. She said that the scheme would also ensure 100 per cent coverage for immunisation in slums, construction sites and areas of brick-kilns in these districts.

Under this scheme, vans especially equipped with facilities for immunisation and necessary staff would be taken to the villages for vaccination in the day and would return by the same evening after having covered all available children between the age of zero to five years in the area.

She reiterated the commitment of the State Government to reduce Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR).
She said that the new scheme would prove a step forward in the efforts being made to reduce MMR and IMR.
The Health Department is committed to reduce MMR from 153 per lakh pregnant women to 94 by the year 2015 and the IMR from 48 per thousand live births to 32 during the same period.
She exhorted them to take care of micro issues to have good management. PTI
