New Delhi: Launching an attack on Team Anna, Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on Tuesday said the civil activists were targeting the government as they fear that a Lokpal Bill stronger than their version is on the anvil, denying them the credit they are aspiring for.
"They (Team Anna) fear that government will bring a Lokpal Bill that will be stronger than their version and the credit that they have been aspiring for would be diluted. I guess, that is why threats are being issued and allegations are being levelled," the Coal Minister told reporters here on the sidelines of a function.
Because of this, Team Anna campaigned against Congress in recently-held Lok Sabha by-poll in Hisar, Jaiswal contended. On the visits being undertaken by spiritual leaders like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Baba Ramdev in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, he claimed it would help his party in the forthcoming state elections.
"I think their visits to UP would be very beneficial for the Congress, although I don`t think these are political visits. Everyone has the right to visit any part of the country, including the dharm gurus," said the Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh. He, however, refused to elaborate how the visits will help Congress in the forthcoming state elections.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has been asking the people of UP to take a vow - not to take bribes and not to give bribes.
