Agartala: A high-level meeting to review progress of the Railway extension project from Agartala -Udaipur in South Tripura district will be held on December 30, official sources said here on Wednesday.
Tripura Chief Secretary S K Panda will chair the meeting while high officials from Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). Other state government officials will also attend the meeting.
The 44-km Railway extension rail project has not yet gained momentum due to problem of land acquisition in Bishalgarh subdivision of West Tripura district. The government was supposed to hand over the required land to Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) by October last but could not due to strong opposition from the local people, P K Das, Land Acquisition Collector (LAC), Bishalgarh subdivision said.
Now, we are hopeful of handing over the land measuring 5.50 km in different places of the subdivision by this month enabling the NFR to undertake construction work?, he claimed.
The Agartala-Udaipur rail extension project is scheduled to be completed by March 2012, if the required land is provided to the authority on time. Besides, this project, survey work for land acquisition for the 75 km Udaipur-Sabroom rail project in South Tripura district has already got underway. The railway extension project is set to be completed by March 2013 next. PTI
