Mumbai: Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, Eknath Khadse on Friday alleged that a report on anti-fire measures to be implemented at the Mantralaya, prepared in 2009, was ignored by the Maharashtra government. Four floors of the state secretariat here were gutted in a major fire yesterday.
Saying that "negligence" of the authorities was seen in the way the incident unfolded, the BJP leader alleged that a 2009 report of the committee headed by a former PWD secretary, which had suggested anti-fire measures, was gathering dust. Khadse, who met the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan this evening, also said while talking to reporters that forensic experts from abroad should be roped into investigate the fire.
"A special session of the Maharashtra Legislature should be called to discuss the issue comprehensively," he said.
