Arjuna awardee Indian woman weightlifter, 3 other national players accused of doping

New Delhi: In a shocking revelation, several medal-winning Indian athletes have been caught in the doping net as their samples were found to be positive in recently concluded National Games in Kerala.
Interestingly, all the names in the list are of women athletes. Well known Indian weightlifter, Geeta Rani, who won a gold medal for the country in the 2006 Melbourne Games (Commonwealth Games) too has been mentioned in the list. Geeta is an Arjuna Awardee as well.
If the doping charges are proved, then World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) might slap a four-year ban on Geeta. She belongs to Punjab and won a gold for her state in 75kg category during the 35th National Games.
Other athletes include Harjeet Kaur (Haryana weightlifter), Komal Wakale (Maharashtra). KM Rachna, who had won a silver medal for Punjab in hammer throw has also been accused of doping.
According to sources, Rachna hails from UP and has been practising in a national camp for the Rio Olympics at NIS Patiala. But after the news broke she was immediately sent back.
Now if these athletes have to prove their innocence they have to come out clean in Sample B.
35th National Games took place in Kerala from 31st January to 14th February.
