West Bengal put on high alert: DGP
West Bengal government sounded a statewide alert to prevent any backlash in the wake of the killing of top Maoist leader Kishenji.
"An alert has been sounded statewide to thwart any counter attack by Maoists following the death of its top leader Kishenji in an encounter", state DGP Naparajit Mukherjee said.
The state government received a directive in this regard from the Union Home Ministry to strengthen security and put the entire force on alert, he said. All senior police officials and district police administrations have been asked to take appropriate measures, he said. State Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh and Home Secretary G D Gautama, DGP and Kolkata Police Commissioner Ranjit Pachnanda already held a meeting to review the situation in the state.
