Washington: Expressing concern over the current situation in Tibet where there has been increasing instances of self-immolation, the US on Wednesday said that China`s continued vilification of the Dalai Lama is making the situation worse in the region.
"We remained deeply concerned about the tensions and the human rights violations in the Tibetan areas," State Department spokesperson, Victoria Nuland said. "China`s own continuing vilification of the Dalai Lama and repeated accusations with regard to the Dalai Lama and saying that he`s directly involved add to the Tibetan grievances and just makes the situation worse," Nuland said. "We continue to call on China to respect the human rights of Tibetans and to -- and allow, you know, journalists in, et cetera (and other things)," she said, adding that the US talks about this with the Chinese every time they meet.
