Dipa Karmakar: 22-year-old scripts history, becomes first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for Olympics

Rio de Janiero: It is one of the most astonishing moments for Indian sports as Dipa Karmakar has become the first Indian to qualify for the Olympics in gymnastics.
Karmakar, the 22-year-old gymnast from Tripura, exhibited a strong show as she completed her performance at the final qualifier and Olympic Test Event in Rio de Janiero and finished ninth in the first of the four subdivisions of the women`s artistic category, thus qualifying for the Rio Olympics, 2016.
Karmakar qualified for the Rio Olympics after finishing all four apparatus in test event.Karmakar was earlier unable to clinch an Olympic berth in the World Championships in November last as she finished outside the podium (fifth place).
She had created history by becoming the first woman gymnast to win a medal, a bronze, in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.
