Bangalore: Girls have fared better than boys in the second year pre-university examination this year, in which about 57.3 per cent of the 5.95 lakh students have passed.

This year 57.03 per cent result is a record of sorts as only 48.93 per cent of students cleared the exam last year. In all 5,95,197 students appeared for the exam, of whom 3,39,421 have passed, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri said at a press meet here at which Pre-University Board Director V Rashmi and Education Department Secretary G Kumar Naik were also present.

Dakshina Kannada district topped with a pass percentage of 85.70 per cent and the newly created Yadgir was at the bottom with 32.21 per cent of students passing the exam.
