Kapurthala: Punjab IG (Jails) Jagjit Singh has conducted an inquiry into the allegations of VIP treatment being given to former state minister Jagir Kaur in the district jail here.
The IG visited the jail late last night to check whether the jail authorities were providing special concessions to 57-year-old Kaur. Singh recorded the statements of jail wardens, jail superintendent and also met Kaur, official sources said.
DGP (Prisons) Shashi Kant had ordered the inquiry following reports by a section of media that the jail authorities were providing VIP treatment to Kaur. The IG refused to divulge details of the inquiry when contacted.
He said that he would look into all the allegations levelled against the jail authorities and added that the inquiry would be completed in the next two days.
Kaur, in a letter to the jail authorities, has demanded a TV set in her cell but there is no provision for the same as per jail rules.
The former minister was sentenced to 5-year imprisonment by a CBI court for conspiring in forcible abortion and abduction in connection with the mysterious death of her teenage daughter twelve years ago.
