Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court, Thursday, granted anticipatory bail with conditions, to former chief minister BS Yedyyurappa in a case related to financial irregularities in allotting tender in Upper Bhadra project, part of Krishna River irrigation project.
The case pertains to a private complaint filed by JD(S) leader YS V Datta in respect of alleged kickbacks received by two firms owned by Yeddyurappa’s kin to the tune of Rs 13 crore from the company which won the civil contract for the second stage of Upper Bhadra project during his tenure as CM.
It has been alleged that the company was awarded the contract despite it being the higher bidder for the work, as against the norms which mandate that the lowest bidder should be given the contract. Based on the complaint, the Lokayukta police had filed an FIR against Yeddyurappa under the Prevention of Corruption Act on charges of alleged favouritism. However, Yeddyurappa has denied any favouritism in awarding of the contract. His lawyer informed the court that a writ petition regarding the project was filed before the division bench headed by the then chief justice of Karnataka High Court, PD Dinakaran.
The bench had upheld the project and said that the tender had been awarded lawfully.
