Mehta, who got special permission to swim the strait as an under 16 participant, became the fastest Asian after completing the course from Spain to Morocco in three hours and 20 minutes on September 21, 1999.

The book of records pencilled in Mehta's feat under the heading 'Fastest Asian swimmer to cross Gibraltar Strait', informed Mehta via a media release today.

"At 15 years, 320 days, he was also the youngest Indian to do it," the book of records has acknowledged, according to Mumbai-based Mehta.
