New Delhi: The Uttarakhand government on Wednesday honoured Olympian Manish Rawat by promoting him as an inspector in the state police department.

The 24-year-old athlete, from Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, represented India at the Rio Olympics 2016.



Manish was placed 13th in the men's 20 km-walk event.


Yesterday, the state government released the order recommending out-of-turn promotion to the post of inspector to the Olympian.


Constable Manish Rawat has been promoted to the rank of inspector in recognition of his performance at the Rio Olympics.


According to reports, he will be eligible for the pay band Rs 9,300 to Rs 34,800 and grade pay of Rs 4,800 per month.


Further he will also be eligible for all other benefits and allowances that the state government will announce from time to time.
