Puducherry: Police have launched a drive to collect details of migrant workers engaged by industrial units and contractors following burglaries in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, where those involved are reportedly from North India. Five persons, four from Bihar and one from West Bengal, suspected to be involved in the two recent daring bank robberies in Chennai, were shot dead by police in an alleged encounter in the city yesterday. Police here said full particulars of the worker`s age, nativity, identity and family background are being gathered and a record would be maintained.

In addition, patrolling would be intensified at night in various vulnerable areas, they said.

A review meeting was also held to work out a blueprint and action plan to keep a close watch on areas normally prone to disturbances, police said.
