Muzaffarnagar: A man, accused of murdering his 19-year-old daughter in a suspected honour killing, was on Thursday remanded in 14 days` judicial custody by a local court.

Abdul Sattar Ansari, the girl`s father, was produced in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and later sent to judicial custody, the prosecution said. The victim, Gulista, had eloped with her lover Chouta (22), who belongs to Dalit community, on October 22. The two had gone to Haridwar and the girl returned home on the evening of October 25th.

The girl was allegedly killed by her father, who slit her throat on Tuesday. Her body was found yesterday morning near the municipality office in Charthawal, police said. The father of the girl was arrested and confessed to have killed his daughter for "tarnishing family name", they said.
