Over 100 striking doctors resume duty in Jaipur
Over 100 striking doctors on Thursday resumed duty here taking the total number of medicos rejoining work to 158.
Jaipur: Over 100 striking doctors on Thursday resumed duty here taking the total number of medicos rejoining work to 158 even as the situation remained grim with the stir entering the eighth day.
"111 protesting resident doctors resumed duties at SMS Government Hospital," L C Sharma, Superintendent of SMS Hospital here, said. "Out of the total of 360 resident doctors, 158 in all have resumed duties. 47 of them had returned yesterday and the rest of them rejoined by this evening," he said.
The remaining resident doctors will also resume duty soon, said Ashok, representative of the resident medicos.
He was among the three-member delegation, who met state Medical and Health Minister Duru Miyan on Tuesday night here and assured him of calling off their strike unconditionally from yesterday morning.
However, the strike continued with only 47 resident doctors resuming duty yesterday.
Meanwhile, a government official claimed that 177 more in-service doctors who were on strike rejoined their duties in different blocks of the state by this evening.
The doctors are demanding pay-hike and time-bound promotions despite claims by the government that the demands have already been fulfilled. Since the start of the strike on December 21, the state government has invoked RESMA and arrested over 400 doctors. Resident doctors came in support of government doctors and joined the stir and several of them were also arrested.
The government has made alternate arrangements with the help of doctors posted at private hospitals, retired and newly recruited medicos as well as Army, BSF, Railway and other doctors.
"Today, a total of 3,054 doctors including in-service government doctors, newly recruited, Army, BSF, Railway and other doctors resumed services all over the state today," he said.
Meanwhile, Opposition BJP today hit back at Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for his remark that the party was behind the doctors` agitation.
BJP state president Arun Chaturvedi said Gehlot was trying to hide his "administrative incapability" by levelling allegations against the party.
Gehlot had yesterday alleged that BJP was behind the agitation and tried to provoke private doctors to join the strike.
