Thane: The Bharatiya Padvidhar Pratishtan (BPP) a trust formed for graduates, today urged Maharashtra Chief Minister to order a CID enquiry into the registration of voters for the ensuing elections to the Graduates Constituency of Konkan.
BPP President Amol A Pawar has in a memorandum to Chavan, said that the procedure followed for enrollment was totally defying the regulations.
He said the Election Commission of India has formulated rules for elections to the Konkan and Mumbai Graduates Constituency vide the Registration of Peoples Act, 1950 section 21 (3) and Voters Registration Rules 1960 section 31(3). In the regulations en mass registration of voters has been disallowed by the Election Commission.
He said that despite the fact that there were not many voters for enrollment in offices there have been addition of thousands of voters for the Konkan constituency.
He said further that political parties and aspiring candidates had collected the applications in blocks and lot and submitted for registration which needs to be probed.
In the memorandum he said that between October 1 and November 20, 2011 these registrations had been done which needs to be thoroughly probed. Till the time this enquiry is through and the results are out the ensuing elections to the constituency should be stayed, he urged.
He said that he had in November and December made a representation to the Konkan Divisional COmmisisoner and the State Chief Election Officer in this regard but of no no avail and hence he was forced to rush to the Chief Minister with the renewed request.
Again in the advertisement given in newspapers on May 4 this year, for registration of voters for Mumbai and Konkan constituency there is no specific mention of disallowing enmass registrations, he pointed out.
He also said that there were a total of 34206 voters in Thane in 2006 and there was a growth of 10502 voters and now the figure stood at 44,708. The situation in Raigarh was 17005 to which 4298 was added.
There was a growth of 2395 voters in Ratnagiri and 240 in Sindudurgh taking the number of voters to 9494 and 5051 respectively.
The entire procedure of enrollment and forms submitted during this period needs to be totally probed by the CID, he said.
Talking to newsmen here, he said the entire procedure is fishy and gives room for serious doubts.
