Srinagar: Aiming at developing skills in tourism sector, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah has sanctioned Rs one crore to a city-based hotel management institute from his constituency development fund.

Abdullah, who represents the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, announced the grant at the silver jubilee function of the Institute of Hotel Management here yesterday. Underlining the need for trained people in tourism sector, Abdullah said hoteliers, houseboat owners and others associated with tourist trade play a vital role and their quality service motivate tourists to re-visit the place.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who was also present in the function, said, "Present day tourists are hyper-sensitive to service and products he receives in hotels, houseboats and other places during his travel. We have to recognise this aspect and match the demands of customer by providing qualitative services and products."
