Moscow: More people in Russia spent time on web portals than in watching traditional TV channels, a survey has shown.
The trend has helped web portals to lead the Russian media market, local media reported.
According to the survey by a market research company TNS, Russian internet search engine Yandex drew 19.1 million visitors a day in April compared to Channel One, which attracted 18.2 million daily viewers, reported Xinhua citing the Vedomosti newspaper. Channel One, the most popular Russian TV channel, was trampled by the search engine for the first time, according to the report.
The gap between Russia`s television viewers and the country`s internet users is also narrowing, as the TNS survey showed that 30.5 million Russians use the internet everyday, which is one million higher than people watching the television.
Users aged 12-54 in cities with a population of over 100,000 participated in the survey.
