New Delhi: Veteran Congress leader Karan Singh, Janardhan Dwivedi and Pervez Hashmi, who were re-elected to Rajya Sabha from Delhi, Monday took oath as members of the House. The three MPs took the oath in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari. The tenure of the three MPs had ended on January 27 and they were re-elected unopposed recently.
Interestingly, Singh, 81, took the oath in his mother tongue Dogri, which has now been included in the 8th Schedule of Constitution.
A prominent Congress leader and former union minister, Singh was appointed the regent of Jammu and Kashmir at the age of 18 after his father stepped down as the king, following the state`s accession to India.
A Padma Vibhushan awardee, he was first elected to Lok Sabha in 1967 and was inducted into the Union Council of Ministers.
For Dwivedi, who is a Congress general secretary, and Hashmi, a prominent Muslim face of the party in the national capital, it is their second term.
