New Delhi: The 15-year-old daughter of American sprinter Tyson Gay was shot dead in the US state of Kentucky.

The shocking news left America and sporting world stunned with taking to social media platforms to share their grief with the bereaved family.


Trinity Gay died at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, the coroner's office for Fayette County said in a statement.


The athlete's agent, Mark Wetmore, confirmed in a text message to The Associated Press that Gay's daughter had died.


Gay, the joint-second fastest athlete ever, confirmed her death to local TV station Lex 18.


Trinity was also an athlete and competed for Lafayette High School, where she was studying.
