Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was informed Thursday that over 1,300 persons have been booked under the Public Safety Act during the last three years in the state. At least 1,332 persons have been booked under PSA -- a tough law which allows detention of a person without trial for two years -- during the last three years in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a written reply, in response to a question by MLC Mohammad Ashraf Mir.
A total of 1,010 persons, including backlog detainees, have been released during these years, the chief minister said.
The highest number of 617 persons were booked under PSA in 2010, followed by 412 in 2011 and 303 in the year 2009, Abdullah said. He said, 317 persons were released in 2009, while 307 were released in 2010 and 386 were set free in 2011.
The number of persons released during these years also include persons who were detained in earlier years, he said.
