New Delhi: Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who stole the hearts of the Indian fans with her superlative performance in vault finals of Rio Olympics 2016, has been recommended for the prestigious Khel Ratna award.

According to reports, Dipa will receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee on National Sports Day.


Sprinter Tintu Lukha is also said to be in contention for the honour.


In the women's vault final, Dipa's average score was 15.066 from her two vaults of Tsukahara-720 and Prudonova where she logged 14.866 and 15.266 respectively to finish fourth behind Switzerland's Giulia Steingruber who logged 15.216.
