New Delhi: After Narsingh Yadav scandal, now, Rio-bound shot putter Inderjeet Singh has become the second athlete to test positive for a banned substance.
According to The Times of India report, the 28-year-old was caught using a banned steroid in an out-of-competition test on June 22. Sources said it was a "fancy-sounding" drug though the name could not be ascertained.
"The National Anti-Doping Agency sent a letter to the athletics federation on Monday evening saying Inderjeet had failed a dope test," the report added quoting a source.
India was readying to send the largest-ever athletics contingent to the Rio Olympics.
Inderjeet won a Gold-medal in the Asian championships, Asian Grand Prix and the World University Games last year. He was also the first Indian athlete to qualify for Rio and went for US-training stint in Pennsylvania. Inderjeet was also winner of a bronze medal in the Incheon Games.
