New Delhi: Sarjana Shama, who is Deputy Executive Producer at Zee News, India’s premier Hindi news channel, has been conferred the Durga Prasad Dubey Award for promoting the Hindi language.

She was among 22 personalities, who were honoured for promoting the National language in the country and abroad on September 02.

This year, the prestigious Dr Sadhna Women Empowerment Award was also presented to Sarjana Shama.

Sarjana, is the programming head for the religious and cultural beat, and brings out the very popular ‘Manthan’ which is telecast every morning at 6:30 am on Zee News. She also writes the Rasbatia blog.

The Constitution of India adopted Hindi in Devnagari Script as the official language of the union in 1950. But despite several attempts, the vision to make Hindi the sole working language of the central government by 1965 did not happen.
In September, there are several programmes being organized to promote the Hindi as national language. September 14 is also being observed as `Hindi Divas` in the country.

Kanpur-based renowned laureate Durga Prasad Dubey’s contribution in the field of popularizing Hindi between 1928-1959, was exceptionally brilliant. In his commemoration, every year several Hindi activists and laureates are felicitated in Kanpur.
