Islamabad: Pakistan`s Interior Minister Rehman Malik will be conferred an honorary doctorate for "bringing peace" to Karachi, a city that has hit by spiraling violence, a media report said Friday. Karachi University Vice Chancellor Pirzada Qasim confirmed to reporters and said the award was being given to the minister for his "services to bring peace to Karachi".
Over 200 people have been killed in violence in Karachi in the past few weeks.
"Before Karachi University discovered the Interior Minister`s hard work, President Asif Ali Zardari had also made a similar discovery on August 14. He conferred the Nishan-i-Imtiaz on Malik. That is a national civil award for recognising an individual`s outstanding achievement or services for the country," media reports said rather derisively.
